To Patent or not To Patent?

I’m often asked “Should I get a patent?”

My response is always “That depends.”

I attended a great seminar as part of BCIC’s New Ventures Competition a few weeks back. Although I learned some new information and filled in a number of week spots in my understanding, It didn’t change my basic opinion. So why do I say “It depends”?

My Electronics Technology Background:

EET 1As I often say, I’ve been making things since I was this high. As a kid, I’d make toys out of wood, nails, string, anything I could find in my dad’s scrap pile or around the workshop. As a young teenager I took all the shop courses at school, wood, metal, plastic, and fell in love with electronics technology. Most of the jobs I’ve held have had something to do with making things.
